This extremely rare red variant only came packaged in the highly coveted Powered Convoy Deluxe Giftset. The PCDX giftset came with with this figure, a black variant of the New Countach LP500S (pre-Transformers Sideswipe), and Mekki chrome variant Powered Convoy (pre-Tansformers Ultra Magnus). This red variant Ligier and black variant New Countach were only available in this giftset.

Distinguishing marks to tell if a figure is authentic Diaclone. First are the "square peg" smokestacks. The second is the vertical ridge on the shoulder, lined up next to the smokestacks. These mold variants are also found on the pre-rub Transformers Optimus Primes as well; they were changed for the later releases. I believe there are two variants of the Diaclone Battle Convoy. The rarer one described and shown on the TF-1 blog that has no tab behind the head. The other variant does have the tab behind the head shown below. I currently own four Diaclone Battle Convoys, three of them purchased directly from Japan. All four are identical:
